Second Grand Cru Classé - AOC Margaux
Château Rauzan-Ségla is owned by the great Wertheimer family, also owners of the Chanel fashion house. It is a wine estate located in Margaux. The 1855 classification placed this wine at the top of the runners-up, just behind Mouton-Rotschild, which benefited from the promotion that we know. Rauzan-Ségla thus had the formidable privilege of leading the cohort of the princes of the Médoc. Unfortunately, the terroir had some weaknesses between the 1960s and 1980s (the cellars were refurbished as a result). Since then, this cru has readjusted its quality and amply justified its classification. It should be noted that the delicacy of the wine makes it very vulnerable to wet years, which the managers realised by simply downgrading the 1987 vintage. The takeover of the estate by the Wertheimer family (Chanel) in 1994 led to new investments in the cellars, the effects of which were felt from the 1997 vintage.
The great bottles of exceptional wine from Château Rauzan-Ségla are available on Comptoir des Millésimes.
