The château de Rayne-Vigneau is a wine estate located in the commune of Bommes, in the department of Gironde, France .In AOC Sauternes, the château is classified premier grand cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.
200 years ago, Château de Rayne Vigneau was considered the second best producer in Sauternes. Only one vineyard was considered to make the best Bordeaux wine in the appellation, the unrivalled Château d'Yquem!
Chateau de Rayne Vigneau takes its name from the phonetic sound of one of its first owners, Baron de Rayne, and another owner, Etienne du Vigneau. At the time of the 1855 classification, the estate was known as Château Vigneau. Château de Rayne Vigneau remained in the hands of the Rayne ancestors from the 18th century until its sale in 1961 to Georges Raoux.
Georges Raoux sold it a decade later to the Cordier Mestrezat group, which then sold it to the French bank, Crédit Agricole, which owns many Bordeaux estates as investments, including Château Meyney in Saint-Estèphe and Château Grand Puy Ducasse in Pauillac.
In November 2015, it was announced that Crédit Agricole had sold a significant stake in Rayne Vigneau to Tresor du Patrimoine through its wine subsidiary Vins et saveurs de France.
