Châteauneuf du Pape 2014 Les Chapouins - Famille Perrin
- The Story
"Les Chapouins, the plot selection in Châteauneuf-du-Pape of the Perrin Family on the locality that bears the same name. A windy and relatively cool place that will give finesse and elegance to this blend essentially made of Grenache, which brings out the full potential of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir.
- The vintage
The winter of 2014 was characterized by mild temperatures for the region and heavy rainfall until mid-March. The heat and the water reserves allowed an early start to the vegetation. Spring was dry until the end of June, with signs of water stress in some areas. However, flowering and fruit setting were optimal, guaranteeing a large harvest. The months of July and August were particularly cool and humid, which slowed down the vine cycle and obliged the winegrowers to reinforce their surveillance. At the beginning of September, two beautiful sunny weeks accompanied an optimal maturity of the grapes.
- Situation
This wine comes from a parcel located in the north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, on the place called Les Chapouins.
- Terroir
The parcel from which this wine is made is typical of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The soil is made up of pebbles on the surface which cover layers of clay, sand and limestone. A terroir that takes advantage of its windy and relatively cool location.
- Aging
Vinified according to Beaucastel's own process, each grape variety is picked separately by hand. Vinification is done in wooden truncated cone vats for the Syrah and Mourvèdre, which are reducing grape varieties. And in traditional concrete vats for the oxidative grape variety that is the Grenache. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, the Perrin family proceeds to the blending of the different grape varieties and the aging is done in tuns for 5 years.
