Brut Vintage 1996 in Magnum - Louis Roederer
Old vintage
98/100 James Suckling
When to drink this Champagne Drink now. At full maturity.
Tasted by J.S in 2022: “This wine has notes of oyster shell, burnt lemon, smoked almond, dried citrus, sea urchin and fig. Interesting notes of cedar too. Lively acidity, with a slightly reductive character of smoke, oyster shell and flint. Very powerful and structured. For drinking or cellaring.”
The estate tells you about it
- Fascinated by the diversity of aromatic expression of Pinot Noir in Champagne, Louis Roederer elaborates his Vintage Cuvée on the structure and power of the Pinot Noirs of the Montagne de Reims, where the vines, exposed to the North-East, are slower to mature. The personality of this great wine is remarkably refined and intensified with ageing in wood and time.
- Made from approximately 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay and a proportion of 30% of wines vinified in wood, the Vintage is aged for an average of 4 years on lees and also benefits from a minimum of 6 months rest after disgorgement to perfect its maturity.
- The palate is typical of Louis Roederer's vintages: a full and deep attack; a vinous and rich roundness refined by the sweetness, the tight fabric and the acidity of the Pinots Noirs from Verzenay. The whole is perfectly integrated into a subtle framework. As the wine is tasted, shimmering evocations of candied fruit, frangipane, toast and white chocolate or caramel appear.
