Opinion : "The Saint-Joseph comes from Malleval, at the northern end of the appellation. The nose is marked by scents of black olives, cracked pepper and espresso, while the palate, quite powerful, is pleasantly silky and slightly tannic on the lingering finish. With excellent balance and great crowd appeal, it should drink well upon release."
THE ESTATE TELLS YOU ABOUT IT
"100% Serine (old syrah). Destemmed harvest. Granitic arenas of the Malleval valley. Aged for twelve months: 20% in new barrels - 40% in barrels of one wine - 40% in barrels of two and three wines. I would be unable to work with another source of Saint Joseph so much this one feeds my curiosity and gives me joy. It would be difficult to find a better origin anyway. In the hillsides of Malleval, the plots of Saint Joseph rub shoulders with those of Condrieu. The classification of the two appellations has resulted in a controlled tangle. In order to determine which terroirs were the coldest, my geologist friend Georges Truc, who was involved in the redrawing of the boundaries of Saint Joseph, counted which terroirs took the longest to melt their snow during a period of snowfall. When he told me this, I was suddenly reminded that intelligence and creativity are at the heart of our business. Our 2014 Saint Joseph is a real "star" in this vintage: its nose of red currant, small tart wild raspberry, "Zan" licorice and oriental spices precedes a full, fruity palate whose relief is created by an omnipresent freshness from the beginning to the end of the tasting. When I taste it, I can't help but think of the granite and slate soils. You can enjoy this bottle in all seasons and even in summer. Happy tasting! Red currant, wild raspberry, licorice, tobacco box. Bottled without filtration. "
