- 95/100 James Suckling & 95/100 Wine Spectator
- When to drink this wine? Best from 2024 to 2029.
- Tasted on April 23, 2023: "Black fruit coulis, intense aromas of spice and smoke on the nose. Powerful and robust in the best possible way, the tannins are remarkably polished for a Rhone red with stacks of Mourvedre. The core is very compact, but the full-bodied palate has excellent energy. It is bold and very structured, but also has a wonderfully delicate sweetness. Aged in a combination of Stockinger oak tuns and clay amphora. Made from biodynamically grown and Demeter certified grapes. Drink it or keep it."
- Blend: A cuvée of 50% Mourvèdre and 50% Grenache from old vines located on the high plain of Gigondas. 75% in whole bunches.
TERROIR AND TECHNICAL DATA
The estate tells you about it : "The historical parcels. It is in this terroir that the wines of the estate have been firmly rooted for five generations, the first ones linked to the foundation of the estate in 1874. In 1852, the municipality of Gigondas decided to put the 12 hectares of the Garrigue communal land up for public auction. The first vines were soon planted there, revealing these great terroirs of stony red clay from the Quaternary period. The roots have to cross an 8m layer of poor and draining ancient alluvium before reaching the blue clay bed. This is the preferred terroir for Grenache, where it shows all its ardor. With the passing of time, Mourvèdre now represents 40 % of the vineyard, bringing its freshness, its liquorice notes and its structuring tannins. The wines born in this area are serious and deep, marked by spices and fleshy tannins, which give them an extraordinary longevity.
- Grape varieties : Vieilles Vignes Grenache 65%, Mourvèdre 35%.
- Vinification : Manual harvest with severe sorting, partially destemmed. Long maceration.
- Maturation : Maturation in recent oak tuns and in earthenware jars for 18 months, then bottled.
- Soil : Poor red clay soils from the Quaternary period.
