Chateau Sociando-Mallet is located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne in Bordeaux. The vineyard is spread over 55 hectares and the production is 350.000 bottles per year. Here is a great wine of the Haut Médoc.
What are the specificities of Château Sociando-Mallet?
Sociando-Mallet is a wine of great quality that does not appear in the classification of the great growths of 1855, nor in that of the crus bourgeois. When Jean Gautreau took over the estate in 1969, there were only five hectares of vines and buildings in a sorry state. So everything was rebuilt from scratch.
The vineyard offers a wine tasting composed of different grape varieties:
No sacrifice has been made to the fashion for supple, flattering wines to be drunk young. Sociando-Mallet is a richly textured, powerful wine, aged in 80 to 100% new barrels, which can wait for twenty years in the cellar. A record for the crus bourgeois of the Médoc. But it is true that the soils are remarkably well drained and that the fermentations, rather long, take place at high temperatures.
In order to make the most of its terroir, the estate produces a second wine, formerly Lartigue-de Brochon, it is now called La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet.
