Tasting by Yohan Castaing in 2024: ‘In 2021, Suduiraut endured a difficult “annus horribilis”, suffering heavy losses due to spring frost and mildew, which almost decimated the entire harvest. However, in the midst of this adversity, Suduiraut 2021 emerges as a true gem. Made only from Semillon grapes and producing a tiny crop of one hectolitre per hectare, this vintage is nothing short of remarkable, possessing a deep, complex bouquet of spice, vanilla bean, exotic fruit, ripe orchard fruit, herbs, flowers and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, it exudes concentration and richness, enveloping the palate in controlled power and impeccable balance. Its lively acidity complements a fleshy fruity core, culminating in a long, mineral and precisely articulated finish. This vintage is one of the most refined and fragrant expressions ever produced at Suduiraut, and could achieve top marks in years to come.
