Clos Sainte Hune 2019 - 100th anniversary - Domaine Trimbach
Alsace - Domaine Trimbach - Riesling Clos Sainte Hune
98+ /100 Parker
Tasting period: 2030 - 2070
Tasted by : Stephan Reinhardt: “Clos Ste Hune 100e Anniversaire 2019 reveals a limpid, fresh and elegant nose of great precision, where saline and lemony aromas express themselves, a true reflection of its terroir. Generous yet refined on the palate, this 2019 vintage adopts a more classic style than the 2018: more austere, less textured but with incredible precision and remarkable salinity. The tannins, still slightly biting, gradually balance with the saline acidity, heralding a Riesling of great finesse and perfect structure, which will gain in complexity over the years.
Personally, I love this style, which emphasizes the clos's purity and finesse rather than its power and richness at this stage. It should be kept for at least 10 years, 20 if possible. Tasted at the estate in April 2024 and again at Clos Ste Hune's 100th anniversary in early November, with an identical impression but an additional note:
Presented with its historic label, Clos Ste Hune 2019 sports an intense yellow color. Its nose, marked by great freshness and remarkable intensity, expresses all the depth and precision of the terroir. Produced from very old vines, this powerful, rich and densely textured Riesling reveals a tight structure and abundant salinity. It draws its depth and intensity from Trimbach's 1.67-hectare east/southeast-facing plot in the Rosacker Grand Cru. The finish is exceptionally intense, marked by notes of marzipan and dazzling mineral freshness.
This grand Clos Ste Hune is based on a yield of 40 to 45 hectoliters per hectare, as Jean Trimbach says every year: “The marl-limestone terroir allows higher yields than the granite, which reaches a maximum of 35 hl/ha.”
The 2019 was bottled with an announced alcohol level of 14.3% and 2.94 g/L residual sugar. Total acidity reached 8.32 g/L, a striking feature of this vintage.”

The limestone soil allows this Riesling to develop a specific aroma and a wonderful concentration of fruit. Dry but succulent, with a phenomenal complexity, this wine develops an extraordinary mineral aftertaste after a few years in the bottle.
The parcel is about 50 to 70 years old, with a south-southeast exposure and low yields.
Annual production reaches about 9000 bottles, depending on the vintage. This makes the wine so unique that Clos Sainte Hune is sought after by many collectors around the world.
