Tasted by William Kelley: ‘One of the wines of the vintage, the 2019 Vieux Chateau Certan unfolds in the glass with a striking bouquet of blackcurrant and cherry fruit intermixed with notions of violet, loamy soil, sweet spice and incense. Full-bodied, ample and layered, it is seamless and enveloping, with a fleshy core of beautifully vibrant fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins. Concluding with a long finish, this fragrant, sensual Vieux Château Certan is a remarkable achievement from Alexandre and Guillaume Thienpont.’

Vieux Château Certan is a classic Bordeaux-style red wine, characterised by its complexity and elegance.It generally presents aromas of ripe red fruit such as cherry, strawberry and raspberry, as well as hints of blackcurrant.There are also hints of liquorice, truffle, tobacco and sometimes even floral nuances. On the palate, this wine is silky, with well-integrated tannins, good structure and a long finish. It may evolve favourably with time, developing more complex aromas.
