Gigondas 2021 Racines - Domaine Les Pallières
Gigondas - Owner Brunier family : Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe
95/100 James Suckling
A wine for laying down.
Tasted in 2024 - ‘Concentrated and silky with fantastic fine tannins for the 2021 vintage, this wine is earthy and fleshy with excellent concentration and a very long, firm but polished finish. This is a Grenache-based cuvee from the vines that grow around the winery. Should age very well. Drink from 2025.
Owned by the Brunier family (or Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe and American importer Kermit Lynch), Domaine Les Pallières bottles two cuvées of Gigondas each year. The Terrasse du Diable comes from the highest and coolest parcels, while Les Racines comes from the plateau surrounding the estate itself and includes the oldest vines on the property. Of the two, Le Diable is generally the more powerful wine, but it never seems to lack elegance. There is also an interesting barrel-fermented rosé produced as a Vin de France.
