When to drink this wine : 2023 - 2043
Tasting by William Kelley: ‘Blending notions of pear and citrus oil with notes of light honey, freshly baked bread and white flowers, the 2019 Meursault Le Tesson is quite full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, with an elegant, seamless profile and a long, chalky finish.’
Age of vines
The vines are 35 years old.
Geology
The vines are located in the commune of Meursault, on the ‘Les Tessons’ parcel, adjoining the ‘Les Chevalières’ climat. The clay-limestone soil is composed of blond earth mixed with small stones in the upper part and deeper earth in the lower part, with a slight slope towards the east. The vines are pruned using the Guyot method (Poussard) and various green harvesting techniques (disbudding, trellising, pollarding).
#### Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted in the vineyard and then in the cellar, followed by pressing (pneumatic press) for slow extraction.
#### Ageing
After a light settling of the must, the grapes are placed in 228-litre French oak barrels (15% new) for alcoholic and malolactic fermentation using indigenous yeasts and bacteria. The wine is aged on its fine lees for 18 months without stirring. One month before bottling, the wine from the different barrels is blended in a stainless steel vat.
Vinification
Ageing
The wine is racked before fining and lightly filtered before bottling, which takes place according to the lunar calendar.
Tasting
The wine is a clear straw yellow colour. The nose reveals intense aromas of white peach, fresh pineapple, citrus fruit and a few mineral notes. On the palate, the minerality is very fresh and fleshy.
Food
Serve this wine with beef carpaccio, sea fish pie with chives or Bresse chicken with rosemary. Serve at 12°C.
