Presentation of Domaine Cuilleron

The Domaine Yves Cuilleron is a producer in northern Rhône producing red and white wines mainly from Syrah and Viognier, respectively. The estate has been owned by the Cuilleron family for three generations, but it is Yves Cuilleron, its current owner and winemaker, who has expanded the size, impact and scope of its vineyards and wineries.

The property holdings were barely 3.5 hectares (8.6 acres) Condrieu and Saint-Joseph before Yves Cuilleron took over in 1987. The estate now has 59 hectares (59 acres) of vines in Côte Rôtie, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas and Saint-Péray. These vineyards are planted with Syrah, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier.

Cuilleron's flagship wines come from the Côte Rôtie and Condrieu appellations. In Condrieu, Cuilleron owns 10 hectares of vines and produces three cuvées - Chaillets, Vertige and Ayguets. These wines come from grapes planted as early as 1939. The grapes are pressed in whole bunches, fermented in barrels with indigenous yeasts, and then aged for nine months on lees. Vertige ages much longer than the other two Condrieu wines, spending 18 months in barrels.

Several wines are produced within the AOC Côte Rôtie, including Terres Sombres, Bassenon and Madinière. These wines, as well as the wines of Saint-Joseph Les Serines, are 100% Syrah or mixed with a small amount of Viognier and are aged for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, the proportion of new oak depending on the cuvée.
