Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl 2020 - Zind-Humbrecht

95/100 Parker
When to drink this wine : 2025 - 2050
Tasted by Stephan Reinhardt in March 2023 : " Made from dolomitic limestone (Muschelkalk) and harvested on September 9-10, the deep yellow 2020 Riesling Clos Windsbuhl offers a pure yet deep, rich and generous bouquet, very complex and refreshing with darker toned fruit, then later on tropical fruit aromas, like mango, and iodine notes appear. Absolutely fascinating! Very intense yet pure and refined on the palate, with fascinating citrus flavors and acidity, as well as fine, chalky tannins, this is a gorgeous, very refined and elegant, lush and generous Riesling that is driven entirely by terroir rather than fruit or vintage. It was bottled with a declared alcohol level of 12.4% and a natural cork. Tasted at the estate in April 2022.

The altitude of the vineyard coupled with Hunawihr’s tardy climate means that the Clos Windsbuhl is often one of the last of our vineyards to be harvested. This explains the aromatic quality of the Clos’ wines and the consistent balance of acidity, a guarantee of good ageing. Although often harvested late, the Windsbuhl grapes are only rarely botryitized, doubtless due to the altitude of the vineyard, but nevertheless often reach high levels of maturity.
Today, the Clos covers an area of 5.5 ha. The Pinot Gris is in the majority, followed by the Gewurztraminer and the Riesling.
Indice: Sweetness level on the palate. Scale from 1 to 5.
1: analytically dry or tasting dry. 2: not analytically dry, but sugars are not noticeable on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness in the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing. 3: medium sweetness, higher in the youth of the wine, which will gradually fade with age. 4: Sweet wine. 5: Sweet wine, very close to a Vendange Tardive.
New in 2023*: The domain has chosen to change the packaging. The capsules are no longer present on the bottles. The domain wishes to be more respectful of the environment and has therefore stopped the production of metal seals. This does not change the potential of the wine and the tasting.
