Tasted by David Schildknecht in 2010: "The 2006 Gewurztraminer Goldert Vendange Tardive smells of peat, celery seed and salt tides. Creamy in texture and flavored with cashew paste and caramelized celery root and parsnip, it may seem to some too bifurcated between root vegetable spiciness and caramelization, though I find the tension here as if I were eating the aforementioned preparations. In addition, there's a glycerin-rich suggestion of mirabelle liqueur, with virtually no heat (despite 15% alcohol) or bitterness. This fascinating wine could have some aging potential, but I would watch it for any signs of emerging heat or bitterness."

Description :The evolution of maturity is always very slow on the limestone terroir of Goldert in Gueberschwihr. We always favor long ripening times, especially for Gewurztraminer, in order to obtain a good ripening of the skins and pips, and this principle is all the more favorable for Goldert as the noble rot develops harmoniously there. In 2006, the grapes were already well ripened very early in September, and while we concentrated on harvesting the Turckheim vineyards, the Gueberschwihr vineyards continued to ripen. When we finally went to pick the gewurztraminers, we were surprised by the high ripeness and intensity of the noble rot, which had concentrated the acidity as well as the sugars. The fermentation was sustained and quite fast for an over-ripe harvest (less than 2 months); but the style and the quantity of residual sugars are a good sign of the late harvest character.
