- Tasted by David Schildknecht in 2011: "In the fall of last year, Zind-Humbrecht's 2009 Pinot Gris Rangen Clos Windsbuhl Selection de Grains Nobles had stabilized with 240 grams of residual sugar and was racked, sulfured, and returned to barrel, ready for a February bottling. An intense, penetrating and incredibly complex aroma of mint, lavender, rosemary, white pepper, maraschino, marzipan, lemon candy and candied quince heralds the rich, enveloping palate performance of a candied, confectionary, as well as intensely herbal and spicy wine. Notes of toasted coconut and lanolin from the thrice-used half-muid in which it was aged add to, but do not disrupt, the ever-expanding show. This peak of its vintage should be followed for at least three decades."

Description :This wine is made from a selection of highly botrytized grapes from the oldest Pinot Gris vines of Clos Windsbuhl. This terroir did not botrytize intensely, but we preferred the SGN option to VT in 2009. Without having the final analysis, as this wine is still being aged, it seems to have superb acidity and concentration. Harvested at about 182°Oechslé, or 26° potential, it fermented for almost 14 months and will not be bottled until September 2011. It would seem that the limestone terroir of the Windsbuhl is increasingly able to produce wines of great concentration in this variety. The late climate of the Windsbuhl also favors a development of quality botrytis, less subject to deviations (mold, acid rot...).
