- When to drink this wine : This wine can be drunk now until 2026 (+).
- Tasted by David Schildknecht in 2010: "The 2006 Zind-Humbrecht Brand Selection de Grains Nobles Riesling represents what happened to this vintage's crop from their old vines in Schneckenburg and is the estate's very first Brand S.G.N. (in fact, only their third Riesling at any site). A noble hint of mushroom, wilted lily, chamomile and peach/yellow plum jam mark the nose as well as a silky, palpably dense and silky palate that adds salted caramel to the wine's seductive list. This wine has terrific fullness without being heavy, and a candied persistence without being stifling. I find the corresponding V.T. more striking and enjoyable to drink today, but I am convinced that this S.G.N. is another of those rare wines of its vintage that can be kept with confidence for two decades or more."

Description :Only three Riesling SGN have been produced at the Zind Humbrecht estate. The Riesling Brand 2006 SGN is the third one! (the first one was the Riesling Clos Windsbuhl 1989 and the second one was the Rangen 1998). The botrytis development was spectacular on the old vines in this terroir in 2006. Only a small selection of grapes was necessary to obtain this wine, as the concentration of noble rot was so high, accentuated by the very low yields. This wine is also the richest of the trilogy with 23° potential (165° Oechslés) and the one with the highest acidity. Before developing noble rot, it is important to note that the grapes were already very ripe, the vine had completed its vegetative cycle and was taking on a golden autumnal hue. Riesling SGNs are rare in our vineyards, as we feel that Riesling wines often need the extra richness and complexity that noble rot brings. To make selections at all costs would deprive many wines of that extra character. In 2006, this dilemma did not arise, as the noble rot rate was close to 80%. I only hope that I will not have to wait another 8-10 years to produce this type of wine!
