97/100 James Suckling
Tasting notes - “Both powerful and crystalline, this densely structured dry Riesling is made for the long haul. Extremely lemony and salty on the medium- to full-bodied palate, it is then very compact on the very long finish, which is as sharp as a rapier. The last Riesling harvested in this vintage, but with the lowest alcohol and highest acidity. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now, but best from 2026.” May 6, 2024

- Soil: Muschelkalk limestone (Trias), south-south-east exposure
Tasting: Pale green/gold color. The nose clearly reflects at this early stage the influence of the limestone geology and the reduced vinification (on lees until bottling). The wine is tight, almost austere, quite strict, but shows just enough fruit (citrus, wet stone, dry herbs...) to excite the senses. It conquers the palate, not because of its power, but because it has just that, a powerful mineral intensity, a racy texture, energy and a beautiful vitality. The Clos Windsbuhl Riesling relies on its saline acidity and its balance of mineral extract. The finish is long, delicate and bright. What a beautiful wine!
Description: Clos Windbuhl has an incredible history that goes back to the 14th century, when it belonged to the Habsburgs of Austria. Alsace was then part of the Holy Roman Empire until 1648. From the beginning, this vineyard has always been considered a privileged place, not only for the quality of the wines and their uniqueness, but also for the beauty of the nature that surrounds it and the strong energy given off by the "hill where the wind plays". Its higher altitude, proximity to the forest and the rocky soil where limestone outcrops are probably the main factors that explain the elegance and nobility of Windsbuhl wines. The vineyard was superb in 2019, the grapes were perfectly ripe but above all, had kept a balance that allowed the indigenous yeasts to produce an intense dry wine. It was kept for 18 months on the lees before bottling without any manipulation.

New *: The domain has chosen to change the packaging. The capsules are no longer present on the bottles. The domain wishes to be more respectful of the environment and has therefore stopped the production of metal seals. This does not change the potential of the wine and the tasting.
Index: Level of sweetness on the palate. Scale from 1 to 5.
1: technically dry or tasting dry. 2: not technically dry, but the sugars are not evident on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness on the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing. 3 : medium sweetness, more important in the youth of the wine, which will gradually fade with age. 4 : Sweet wine. 5 : Sweet wine, very close to a Vendange Tardive
