Riesling Herrenweg Turckheim 2014 - Zind-Humbrecht
Zind-Humbecht Estate
Sweetness index on the palate: 1, technically dry or dry tasting wine
After the hailstorm disaster of 2013, this vineyard has particularly well succeeded the Riesling grape variety in 2014. Located at the opening of the Munster valley, on a gravelly soil of the quaternary, the Herrenweg benefits from a hot and dry climate, which gives it an early character. The grapes ripen quickly, especially when there is no water deficiency (too much water is not a problem here!) and acquire an important aromatic potential. As the grapes are poorer in minerals, vines of a certain age are needed to express the terroir in the Herrenweg and also to gain complexity and concentration. This wine took a very long time to finish fermenting (18 months) which explains the particularly late setting. The 2014 is potentially one of the best examples of this terroir in recent vintages.
Hint: Level of sweetness on the palate. Scale from 1 to 5.
1: technically dry or dry tasting wine. 2: not technically dry, but the sugars are not obvious on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness on the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing.3: medium sweetness, more important in the youth of the wine, which will gradually fade with age. 4: Sweet wine. 5: Sweet wine, very close to a Late Harvest
Caution: The bottles of Alsace wine do not fit into the wooden boxes sold separately.
