- Chateauneuf du Pape 2019
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) located in the southern Rhône Valley wine region of France. One of the region's most renowned appellations, it is renowned for producing rich, powerful red wines.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are predominantly red, although white and rosé wines are also produced. Red wines are made from a blend of different grape varieties, mainly Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Other authorized grape varieties include Cinsault, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Muscardin, Terret Noir and Picpoul. Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are renowned for their complexity, aromatic intensity and ability to age for many years.
To enjoy a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, we recommend serving it at a slightly cool temperature, around 16-18 degrees Celsius, to bring out the wine's aromas and flavors. On the nose, you can expect notes of ripe red and black fruits, spices, garrigue (Provençal herbs) and licorice. On the palate, these wines are generally rich, concentrated and structured, with well-presented tannins. They offer great complexity, with flavors of fruit, spices and notes of terroir. Some vintages may require prior aeration to reveal their full potential.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape reds go well with a wide variety of dishes. They are often associated with grilled or roasted red meats, lamb dishes, stews, game and mature cheeses. Their richness and structure make them ideal for intense flavors.
